My teacher Don Mcunn gave some wonderful advice to one of my group members today. He was responding to her comment about the doll slopers that he created for designing doll clothes. She was saying that it's nice to be able to use the slopers to design clothes for her doll because you can pretty much skip the...not sew fun stuff and just go straight to the fun part, Design. He said, "Design is the fun part but mastering fitted slopers is what will allow you to become self-sufficient and liberated from a dependence on others. Helping people achieve this kind of independence is what motivated me to write my book "How to Make Sewing Patterns."
I have that book "How to make sewing patterns" and it is wonderful! I can tell that Mr. Mcunn likes to teach beginners and that he has thorough knowledge of fashion design :) I also agree with my fellow member. It is fun to just do the designing. I myself like to alter store bought patterns to create new designs but I want to have a deeper understanding of fashion design. I decided today to focus and commit myself to learning. I am sew excited you all! :)
Take care :)
Peace!
Mastering the not sew fun part
YaaaaY for Epiphanies!!!!
Today I had and epiphany. I was talking to my sister and I made up my mind that I was going to back away from my Facebook pages and my other blogs so that I can focus on my education and my children's education. I might dibble and dabble in it a bit but for the most part I have my priorities in order. I am sew excited because I am usually soooo worn out because I want to do it all but now I can slow down and take my time:) Haha! I feel sew liberated and sew happy!
Peace :)
Hi Don,
I am wondering if you will help me to develop a quick curriculum for myself. I know you have intentions to retire soon and so I would need to make the most of time time I have left with you. I want to use your books and slopers to make patterns for her. (My dolly model)
